Sheldon Frank | CABC Director and President
Sheldon Frank brings over 16 years of experience coaching female basketball in Central Alberta to his roles as President of CABC and head coach of the Olds College Broncos. After beginning his collegiate coaching journey as an assistant in the ACAC, he was hired as head coach at Olds College in 2023.
A strong advocate for mental health, Coach Frank believes in treating his players as people first and athletes second. His coaching philosophy centers around creating a supportive, respectful, and empowering environment where student-athletes can grow both on and off the court.
With CABC, he is committed to building fun, positive programs and developing the next generation of basketball talent in the region.
Lizzie Smith | CABC Director
I’m excited to step into the role of Director of CABC. My background as a registered psychologist, former military member, and mental performance coach working with college athletes has shaped my passion for resilience, teamwork, and high performance. I care deeply about helping people grow both on and off the court. I look forward to bringing that experience to help strengthen basketball and support the athletes, coaches, and community around the game.
Taylor Armstrong
Taylor Armstrong is a strong presence in Alberta basketball, having made significant contributions both as a player and a coach. He played for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and the Briercrest Clippers, earning recognition as an ACAC All-Conference award winner. His deep understanding of the game and exceptional performance on the court have solidified his reputation in the basketball community. Certified by Canada Basketball, Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his coaching and training endeavors.
Amy Syzmanek
Amy boasts the longest tenure with CABC, having spent three years as a player and the past six years coaching and mentoring our female athletes. Hailing from Stauffer, Alberta, Amy’s impressive basketball journey includes four years with the RDP Queens basketball program, where she was an All-Conference player and Captain of the recent 2022-2023 ACAC Champions.
Recognized as a motivational leader and adept communicator, Amy’s passion for teaching and guiding young athletes shines through. Currently wrapping up her Education degree, Amy’s dedication to player development is evident in her coaching style.
Ed Major
Ed has been coaching in Central Alberta for over 15 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our program. We are lucky to have him.
Ed has just finished his masters in Educational Leadership and will be a great teacher for our athletes.
Over the past decade, Ed has been dedicated to coaching the girls programs at Notre Dame as well as being the head coach and assistant coach with the RDP Queens and Kings programs.
Jonathan Goulet
At CABC, our commitment to excellence extends beyond the court. Jonathan marks the third coach in our roster pursuing or holding an Education Degree, highlighting our dedication to holistic player development.
Currently a teacher with the RDPSD, Jonathan brings a wealth of coaching experience to our team. From Grade 9 to JV levels, CABC to Summer games, and as an assistant with the RDP Kings, Jonathan has left an indelible mark on every team he’s coached.
Known for his adeptness at working with student-athletes, Jonathan aims to merge practical basketball skills with theoretical knowledge to empower athletes to reach new heights in their game. We’re honored to have Jonathan on board, championing our mission to foster comprehensive growth and excellence in our players.
