Sheldon Frank | CABC President
Born and raised in Red Deer, Sheldon has deep roots in the Central Alberta basketball community. After spending 12 years as a high school coach, he joined the RDP Queens coaching staff as an assistant. Following their recent ACAC title win, Sheldon transitioned to head coach of the Olds College Broncos women’s basketball program.
Sheldon’s coaching philosophy prioritizes treating players as human beings first, valuing connection and individual growth over just athletic performance. Emphasizing player development over plays alone, he aims to prepare athletes for success beyond the court. At CABC, we share Sheldon’s commitment to nurturing talent, and we’re eager to witness the potential of our U17/U18 Girls this year.
Heidi Cabay
Heidi Cabay is our esteemed Girls U15 Coach. With over a decade of experience coaching high school girls’ basketball, Heidi brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for teaching fundamentals to our team. Since 1999, she has been dedicated to honing young athletes’ skills through her skills clinics, laying a solid foundation for their playing careers.
In addition to her coaching prowess, Heidi is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Education degree. Her background as a massage therapist and personal trainer adds a unique perspective to her coaching style, emphasizing holistic player development both on and off the court.
Taylor Armstrong
Taylor Armstrong is a strong presence in Alberta basketball, having made significant contributions both as a player and a coach. He played for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and the Briercrest Clippers, earning recognition as an ACAC All-Conference award winner. His deep understanding of the game and exceptional performance on the court have solidified his reputation in the basketball community. Certified by Canada Basketball, Taylor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his coaching and training endeavors.
Amy Syzmanek
Amy boasts the longest tenure with CABC, having spent three years as a player and the past six years coaching and mentoring our female athletes. Hailing from Stauffer, Alberta, Amy’s impressive basketball journey includes four years with the RDP Queens basketball program, where she was an All-Conference player and Captain of the recent 2022-2023 ACAC Champions.
Recognized as a motivational leader and adept communicator, Amy’s passion for teaching and guiding young athletes shines through. Currently wrapping up her Education degree, Amy’s dedication to player development is evident in her coaching style.
Jonathan Goulet
At CABC, our commitment to excellence extends beyond the court. Jonathan marks the third coach in our roster pursuing or holding an Education Degree, highlighting our dedication to holistic player development.
Currently a teacher with the RDPSD, Jonathan brings a wealth of coaching experience to our team. From Grade 9 to JV levels, CABC to Summer games, and as an assistant with the RDP Kings, Jonathan has left an indelible mark on every team he’s coached.
Known for his adeptness at working with student-athletes, Jonathan aims to merge practical basketball skills with theoretical knowledge to empower athletes to reach new heights in their game. We’re honored to have Jonathan on board, championing our mission to foster comprehensive growth and excellence in our players.
